Ukraine’s imports nearly double exports, trade deficit hits $18.3 billion
Ukraine’s trade turnover in the first half of 2025 totaled $58.3 billion, according to data from the State Customs Service.
Imports between January and June amounted to $38.3 billion, while exports reached $20 billion. The trade deficit widened by one-third compared to the same period last year – from $13.7 billion to $18.3 billion.
China ($8.2 billion), Poland ($3.5 billion), and Germany ($3.2 billion) remained Ukraine’s top import partners. The largest import categories were machinery and equipment, chemical products, and fuel and energy resources.
Ukraine’s leading export destinations were Poland ($2.4 billion), Turkey ($1.7 billion), and Italy ($1.2 billion). A year earlier, the top three included Poland, Spain, and China.
Ukraine’s top export categories were:
→ food products – $11.2 billion (a notable 10% decline year-on-year);
→ metals and metal products – $2.3 billion;
→ machinery, equipment, and transport vehicles – $1.9 billion.
- In 2025, the United States and the European Union ended the trade preferences granted to Ukraine at the onset of the full-scale war.
