Ukraine has doubled its gas bookings via the Trans-Balkan corridor

Ukrainian traders have booked 1.2 million cubic meters per day of capacity for natural gas supplies from Greece in December – the highest figure since the launch of the Trans-Balkan route reported former Minister of Energy Olha Buslavets and testify Interfax-Ukraine data.
The Trans-Balkan Corridor is a joint initiative of the gas transmission system operators of five countries. Bulgaria's Bulgartransgaz EAD, Greece's DESFA SA, Romania's Transgaz SA, Moldova's VestMoldTransgaz SRL, together with Ukraine's GTSOU, have created a route package product for gas transportation from Greece to Ukraine.
At the auction of the regional booking platform RBP, which took place on November 24, market participants reserved more than half of the capacities offered by the GTS operator for gas supply via Route 1 in December.
"Operators offered 2.2 million cubic meters per day, of which 60% was reserved – the highest level since the route's launch. In November, the number of bookings was half as much," Buslavets wrote.
Buslavets also said that consultations are underway regarding the launch of new supply routes – Route 2 and Route 3, which are likely to start operating in January 2025.
To increase the attractiveness of the route, the operators agreed on a single transit tariff with a 25% discount. The Ukrainian operator provides the largest discount among the participants – 46%.
Starting in May of this year, operators have been conducting monthly auctions for capacity allocation. Tenders take place on the fourth Monday of each month, and a single-price auction mechanism is used for capacity allocation.
Approximately 32 million cubic meters of natural gas have been delivered to Ukraine via Route 1 since July 2025.
- On October 30, it became known that Ukraine has resumed gas imports. via the Trans-Balkan corridor after a two-month break.
